The 2017 Foundation Source Report on Grantmaking (which can be downloaded by clicking the button below) provides an examination of the grantmaking behavior of our clients in 2016 and 2015. We undertake these reports in order to elucidate the behavior of foundations that hold assets of less than $50 million, which represent that vast majority of all private foundations in the U.S.
This report documents how much our clients gave in the aggregate, where they concentrated their giving, the popularity of “alternative donations” such as gifts to individuals, and the timing of their gifts.
It offers other private foundations a rare opportunity to benchmark their activity against their peers. Unlike the majority of foundation research, the data for this report are sourced from the actual transactions of our clients’ foundations, making it a highly reliable resource for the philanthropic community.
