Resources designed to help donors give with their heads as well as their hearts

FAIRFIELD, CT –November 15, 2017– In advance of Giving Tuesday, Foundation Source today announced the release of its “Smart Giving” toolkit, designed to help families unite around charitable giving and discover the rewards of giving wisely as well as generously.

“Writing a check on Giving Tuesday can make you feel good, but what feels even better is knowing that your family has made a real and appreciable difference,” said Susan Friedlander Calzone, Chief Executive Officer at Foundation Source. “With Thanksgiving approaching, many families are wondering how to translate their feelings of gratitude into a plan for giving back. We created the ‘Smart Giving’ toolkit to help families, with or without private foundations, fully develop their philanthropic approach and keep the feeling of Thanksgiving going throughout the entire year.”

The toolkit included three guides:

  • 8 Questions to Consider Before Donating to a Nonprofit, helping donors sift through the over 1.5 million nonprofits in the United States to find ones that will make the best use of their gift;
  • Raising a Generous Generation, providing age-appropriate ideas for cultivating generosity and inspiring children of all ages to become agents of change; and
  • The Foundation of a Philanthropic Family, which outlines the family-building objectives that can be achieved with a private foundation.

 “Giving from the head is just as important as giving from the heart,” Calzone added. “By using the materials in this toolkit, donors can get more from their giving: more impact, more family engagement, and a legacy of generosity that can begin this holiday season and last for generations to come.”
