We are excited to continue our Featured Friday series with Anthony Quarino, who was recently promoted to Senior User Experience Designer at Foundation Source. Keep reading for an inside look at what it’s like to work on the Product Management team at Foundation Source.

When and why did you join Foundation Source?

I joined Foundation Source in February of 2021 for the unique opportunity to create products that will be used by some of the world’s most charitable foundations.

What do you love about working at Foundation Source?

The people—everyone at Foundation Source is genuinely caring and truly rooted in building products and experiences that help our clients.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is that I can close my laptop at the end of the day and walk away knowing that the work we did is going to benefit a cause that will impact the world. There are not many jobs that can give you that satisfaction and fulfillment every day.

What do you look forward to each day?

Almost every day presents a new challenge at Foundation Source. As a UX Designer, I love the complex problems that challenge us, but it’s the people that I get to collaborate with while solving these problems that make me look forward to work.

What does your job entail?

As a UX Designer in the product department, it’s my responsibility to empathize with anyone who has a touchpoint with our products to make sure they’re experiencing as little friction as possible while being able to accomplish whatever they set out to do with our services. I’m also fortunate to be able to collaborate with several other departments to help create, improve, and conceptualize ideas to assure Foundation Source is providing our customers with a meaningful experience.

What is your team like and what has your experience been with company culture?

The culture and teams at Foundation Source are amazing. There’s a strong sense of teamwork, honesty, and innovation. Specifically, on the Product Engineering & Design teams, we have a very talented and diverse skill set. Everyone has an opportunity for their voices and ideas to be heard, which makes for great collaboration. Foundation Source is the type of organization that will give you the opportunity to try new things, come up with new ideas for existing problems, and not be punished for failing if you do so.

What has been your favorite project at Foundation Source?

My favorite project at Foundation Source has been being a part of the team that overhauled our Tax Center experience. The team went into the project with some great data where we knew what our user’s pain points were, and we had the ability to incorporate some innovative solutions. The feedback and data we received proved that it was a success, which is important to me as that helped assure us that we were making our user’s experience seamless and more enjoyable during their tax season.

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

Prior to Foundation Source, I spent a lot of time at companies that already had an established design philosophy. Since joining the team, I’ve had the opportunity to share some of my knowledge that I’ve been fortunate to learn at previous companies. This has allowed me to grow professionally as someone who can be a design advocate and influence how Foundation Source views design and our customer experience.

In your opinion, what makes the Foundation Source team special?

There are no egos or individuals at Foundation Source who believe they’re better than anyone else. I can go to any department lead, member of our executive team, or even our CEO, Sunil Garga, to ask for help on a project or to share information we’ve learned about a project, and all would be open for a chat.

What is a memorable client experience you’ve had or heard about?

There’s too many to list! We have a communications channel that allows our foundation-facing employees to share what the foundations are doing, and the success stories of how they’re impacting the world. It’s a nice reminder of how the work we do is more than just pushing pixels or hitting deadlines.

What advice would you give to someone who doesn’t know about Foundation Source or may be thinking about joining the team?

If you’re curious about the company or what a day in the life is like for someone in a specific role, I would suggest reaching out to a Foundation Source employee on LinkedIn.
