Happy Friday! In this edition of our Featured Friday Series, we’re featuring Jamie Buck-Tomek, who is celebrating 15 years at Foundation Source next month! Keep reading for an inside look at what it’s like to be a Senior Salesforce Administrator on our Salesforce Systems & Operations team.

When and why did you join Foundation Source?

I joined Foundation Source in 2007. The role I interviewed for was new to the company (Technology Specialist), which offered some opportunity to shape what it encompassed, and it seemed like a great fit for my skills and what I enjoy doing. Also, working for a company that was involved in philanthropy was a draw for me.

What do you love about working at Foundation Source?

From the very beginning, I have always been impressed with the kindness, generosity and integrity of the people I have worked with here. I have been lucky to work with people in many departments and nearly all have made a point to highlight the contributions and successes of others, which was a big change from previous jobs.

I get to use my creativity to build a tool or interface that is uniquely suited to a team and that makes some part of their job easier or more productive.”

What do you look forward to each day?

The 20-minute nap I take before my kids come home at night.

What is your team like and what has your experience been with company culture?

I have worked with several different teams over my almost 15 years here, and I feel like I have really found my home within the Salesforce Systems & Operations team. We complement each other’s strengths and weaknesses. We know when to work long hours and when to take a moment to breathe. We genuinely enjoy helping our colleagues solve problems. And yes, a couple of us *may* craft on the weekends.

What has been your biggest accomplishment since joining Foundation Source?

Speaking at Salesforce’s Dreamforce conference in 2017. As usual, I got some good laughs.

How have you grown professionally while on our team?

I’m lucky to have been mentored over the years by a few different people within the company. I am well versed in all the business speak about rocks or parachutes or killer apps, but beyond all of that, I have been given the opportunity to learn what is and is not effective in a team and in professional relationships as a whole. Good communication and healthy relationships are how good work gets done. Alongside that, I have also changed how I carry myself and how I handle difficult work situations. And this I learned while raising my kids. I now first look for what people really need, what is driving their emotions, before deciding what to build or even what to say. I also don’t sweat nearly as much about the small stuff because I legitimately can’t – I don’t have the time or energy for that. I have more compassion because I know that not everyone is at the same point in their lives or capable of the same things. And, of course, I never underestimate the value of ‘redirection’ – “Before we talk about this next project, let’s have cookies!”

What parts of Foundation Source’s mission do you connect with?

I’ll be honest – I rarely read a company’s mission. I work with good people who believe in what they’re doing and that’s what’s most important to me.

What advice would you give to someone who doesn’t know about Foundation Source or may be thinking about joining the team?

The people you work with will be an incredible asset to you, no matter where your career takes you.
